Connecting the Dots:
Exploring the Link between Interoception, Emotion, and Mental Health
In this part of the Em-Body study we want to know: How does interoception relate to our ability to recognise, differentiate and regulate emotions? How does this relate to symptoms of anxiety and depression?
You can find out more here.
In order to take part in this study, you must be aged between 18 and 65 years old and able to take part in a 4-hour testing session at UCL in London.
In addition, you must not meet any of our exclusion criteria. If you are interested in taking part, please follow this link to view the exclusion criteria and complete the screening questions

During the study, you will be asked to answer a series of questions about yourself (e.g. age, gender, sex assigned at birth, education level), current medication use (e.g. contraception, supplements), and current or previous mental and/or physical health condition diagnosis.
You will then perform a series of tasks where we will assess your ability to detect signals coming from within your body, such as your heart rate and breathing. To do so, we will record these bodily signals (e.g. heart rate, blood pressure) using non-invasive equipment involving electrodes placed on your fingers, abdomen, and just below your shoulders. This is not painful. We will ask you to remove excess body hair on your abdomen. You can find more detailed information about these procedures (including videos of the equipment) here.
In preparation for the study, you will be asked to not eat or drink anything (including water) for three hours before your testing session (e.g. if your testing session starts at 2pm, please do not eat or drink between 11am and 2pm).
Yes! We will reimburse you at a rate of £10 per hour (up to £40).
You can find more information in the Participant Information Sheet linked below. If you have any further questions, do not hesitate to contact the team at icn.embody[at]ucl.ac.uk
Thank you for your interest in taking part in our study. Please complete the following short screening questionnaire to determine whether you are eligible [https://shorturl.at/54tQ8]. We will then get in touch to arrange an in-person testing session in London.
Once you have signed up, head to our What
to Expect page to find out what will happen
